Lying at the base of the iconic Mt. Machhapuchhre(Fishtail) (6997m), Mardi Himal trail gives a feeling of trekking in the Annapurna region with fewer tea-houses and trekkers en route. An extension of the southwest section of Machhapuchhre, it takes less than a week to trek through the lush Bamboo and Rhododendron forests to reach the vantage point of Mardi Himal Base Camp. Although the landscape on the trek changes ruggedly from hills to lower mountains in a short span of time which offers astounding beauty of the Annapurnas and their residents.
The 11-day trek begins upon your arrival in Kathmandu. After initial preparation and full-day sightseeing of the UNESCO historical Kathmandu City, you’ll embark on a road journey west to the touristic city of Pokhara. The trek destinations lie 20km north of Pokhara, hence, you’ll take a short commute to Kande village and commence trekking through the quaint villages in the Annapurna region. You’ll pass through Australian Base Camp, Deurali, Low Camp, and High Camp before reaching the Mardi Himal Base Camp (4500m). Although considered the base camp, you can choose to trek 2hr further to reach the Upper View Point. From there you will enjoy the closer view of the scenic Annapurna massif, Machhapuchhre (6997m), and Mardi Himal summit (5553m).
Afterward, it’s a continuous descent through the alpine shrubs, and lush Bamboo and Rhododendron forests until Lumre. Then, you’ll retrace your path and trek back through High Camp to Siding village. You’ll descent along the Kalimati and Ghalel villages en route to Lumre; from where you’ll catch your commute back to Pokhara. The trip concedes at Kathmandu upon your return from Pokhara. Mardi Himal Trek is accessible throughout the year, however, spring (Mar-Jun) and autumn (Sep-Nov) seasons are considered the best.
