The 17-days Upper Mustang Trek commences at Kathmandu. The trip begins with a cultural tour of the Kathmandu city where you’ll get to witness a few of the most popular UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Afterward, you’ll commute to the remote town of Jomsom via Pokhara. The trek commences at Jomsom and moves northward along the Kali Gandaki valley through the quaint Buddhist villages of Kagbeni, Chele, Syanbochen, and Tsarang before entering the ‘walled city’ of Lo Manthang. Lo Manthang was the capital of the Mustang region and the last monarch of Mustang resided in his palace inside Lo Manthang. Although a part of Nepal, the inhabitants adherently follow the Tibetan lifestyle.
After exploring the walled city, you’ll move north towards Niphu and Garphu along with Ghar Gumba (Buddhist Monastery) before making your way back to Jomsom via Dhakmar, Ghiling, Samar, and Kagbeni. The trans-Himalayan flight from Jomsom will bring you back to Pokhara. The trip concedes at Kathmandu. You’ll also get to relish the beautiful sight of Annapurna I (8091m) and Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m) at their full glory. Upper mustang can be traveled from March to late December, whereas June to September is the best time of the year.
