Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, one of the most popular trek destinations in Nepal. An adventurous journey into the Annapurna region in mid-west Nepal which is suited for all kinds of trekkers. Exploring the Annapurna Conservation Area; the trek takes you to Ghorepani and Ghandruk, scenic Gurung villages located on the foothills of Annapurna massif. Poonhill viewpoint is another highlight on the trek which offers a complete 360 degrees panorama of the surrounding hills, Kali Gandaki gorge, Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP), and the Himalayas in the Annapurna region.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek initiates upon your arrival at Kathmandu followed by a scenic sightseeing tour of Kathmandu City. Then, Guided by an experienced tour guide, you’ll visit numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and age-old historical palaces. Afterward, a short drive to the west of Kathmandu along the Trishuli River will take you to the popular tourist getaway of Pokhara City followed by a 1.5hr drive northwest to Nayapul. Nayapul serves as the gateway to the Annapurna Conservation Area. Then, the trek begins with a decent uphill hike through the lush sub-tropical forests towards Ulleri. From Ulleri, you’ll continuously climb stone-steps leading directly to Ghorepani village. An early morning hike east of Ghorepani will bring you to the watchtower of Poon Hill (3193m) from where you can catch a beautiful sunrise along with the majestic panorama of Annapurna I (8091m), Machhapuchhre (6997m), Nilgiri (6441m), and Hiunchuli (7061m).

Afterward, you’ll make a descent to the village of Tadapani. The trail continues to the traditional village of Ghandruk before dropping towards Nayapul. The ethnic village Ghandruk is mostly inhabited by the Gurung tribe of people and also serves as the headquarters of the Annapurna Conservation Area. A short hike down the stone-steps and the rugged trail will bring you back to Nayapul. You’ll catch a commute back to Pokhara, and drive back to Kathmandu. Ghorepani Poon Hill trail remains accessible throughout the year, however, spring (Mar-Jun) and autumn seasons (Sep-Nov) guarantee the best weather and accessibility.

  • Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m)

    One of our representatives will warmly receive you at Tribhuvan International Airport, and escort you to your hotel. After checking-in, you’ll meet your trek guide and discuss the trip. Afterward, you can go out to shop for essential trek gear, equipment, or accessories. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

  • Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing

    On this day, you explore the UNESCO enlisted world heritage sites around Kathmandu, namely: Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Kathmandu is a melting pot of various religions, cultures, and beliefs; hence, you can find numerous monuments belonging to various cultures here. These heritages of religious and cultural significance represent the true spirit of the valley. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

  • Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara | 820m

    After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll embark on a road journey west of Kathmandu to Pokhara City. Pokhara is a touristic city which lies 141km west of Kathmandu. You’ll drive through Prithvi Highway along the massive Trishuli River, lush forested hills, and colorful towns en route. The scenic ride will offer an experience of riding through the serpentine roads of Nepal. Upon your arrival at Pokhara, you’ll be welcomed with the magnificent views of Machhapuchhre (6997m) and Annapurna I (8091m). Overnight stay at Pokhara.

  • Day 04: Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul | 2 Hrs and trek to Ulleri | 1960m | 4-5 Hrs.

    A 1.5hr drive northwest of Pokhara through Baglung Highway facilitates quick access to Nayapul. Nayapul serves as the gateway to the Annapurna Conservation Area along with being the start point of the trek. After a brief rest, you begin the trekking. The continuous uphill hike takes you through Birethanti, Lamdawali, Sudame, and Hile villages en route. After lunch at Hile, you’ll continue the trek and head towards Ulleri.

  • Day 05: Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani | 2880m

    You’ll begin the trek by taking on the stone steps leading out of the Ulleri village. It can prove to be a difficult affair for most trekkers, however, with enough rests in-between you can easily complete the hike. The neatly-adjusted stone steps lead directly to the village of Ghorepani which offers a magnificent panorama of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Annapurna massif. You’ll cross Banthanti and Nangethanti villages en route. Overnight stay at Ghorepani.

  • Day 06: Hike to Poon Hill for sunrise | 3193m | 1 Hr. and trek from Ghorepani to Tadapani | 2630m | 5-6 Hrs.

    An easy, short hike from Ghorepani will take you to Poon Hill. Poon Hill is a hilltop located 1hr from Ghorepani. You’ll wake up early and hike up to the local watchtower at Poon Hill to enjoy the beautiful sunrise along with the majestic panorama of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Nilgiri, Himalchuli, and Dhaulagiri peaks. After a brief stop at Poon Hill, you’ll hike down to Ghorepani for the breakfast and head towards Tadapani village through the lush rhododendron forests. Overnight stay at Tadapani

  • Day 07: Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk | 1960m

    You’ll leave Tadapani and continue up the trail following the rhododendron forest towards Ghandruk. The trail lies inside Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP) so, you can witness the rich vegetation of the area. Ghandruk lies to the southeast of Tadapani. You’ll make a brief stop at Bhaisi Kharka for lunch and then continue trekking towards Ghandruk. Overnight stay at Ghandruk.

  • Day 08: Trek from Ghandruk to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara | 820m | 2 Hrs.

    Ghandruk serves as the headquarters of Annapurna Conservation Area. The area is known for preserving the ethnic culture, tradition, and lifestyle of the indigenous Gurung tribe. You can choose to visit the local Gurung museum and hike to the nearby temple before heading down to Nayapul. A short downhill hike through the stone steps will take you down to Nayapul from where you can catch the commute back to Pokhara. Overnight stay at a hotel in Pokhara.

  • Day 09: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu and Farewell Dinner

    You’ll bid farewell to Pokhara city and make your way back to Kathmandu. The majestic view of Machhapuchhre (6997m) and Annapurna I (8091m) will be clearly visible while you depart. The long drive will take you through the lush forested hills, gorges, and towns along the Trishuli River. Once at Kathmandu, you will check-in at the hotel. Our representative will come to pick you up in the evening for the farewell dinner in one of the finest diners in Kathmandu. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

  • Day 10: Departure from Kathmandu

    You’ll leave for the airport. Our representative will drive you back to the airport approximately 2hr early so as to avoid any delays from traffic congestion.

FAQs

  • What are the visa requirements?

    Currently, all the foreign nationalities (except Indians) require a visa to enter Nepal. Visas are obtainable from embassies abroad or on arrival at Kathmandu’s Airport. If getting the visa at the airport be prepared for long queues. You will also need to provide one passport photo and the $50 USD fee for 30 days.

  • What are the physical requirements for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek?

    Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek requires you to trek at an altitude of maximum 3193m and up to 5- 7 hours per day, with a small 5-7kg bag. We recommended you to train with long hikes and/or a sport of your choice (e.g. jogging).

  • How old do I need to be?

    There is no age restriction for doing this trip, but if you are under 16 it will better to trek with your parents. You must be health-conscious during the trek.

  • What is the accommodation like?

    You will stay in the Hotel while you are in the city of Kathmandu, which is like a 3-star category. The hotel has access to showers and intermittent internet.

    But while you are in trekking Tea House/lodges are the place where you spend the night during the trek, which is very basic. The room is pretty small with twin sharing and a common washroom. Some places have squat style toilets, whilst others have a western style. Shower does not always offer warm water and most teahouses will charge you for use of a hot shower.

  • Which meals are included?

    Meals will be served as per the menu of the teahouse/lodges. Where you can find a variety of dishes like Indian, Nepalese, Tibetan, Continental, etc, to choose. Tea, coffee, bakery items, snacks, bars eggs, etc can also be found easily.

  • What currency should I take?

    The currency used in Nepal is Nepalese Rupees (NPR). You are unable to get NPR outside of Nepal and therefore you will need to exchange money in Kathmandu. The easiest currency to exchange is USD and Euro. You can also withdraw NPR from the ATM but check with your bank about the relevant charges to do this.

  • Is there any Bank or ATM facility during Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek?

    Yes, there is a good facility of bank and ATM in Pokhara and Nayapul.

  • What kind of problems can arise at a higher altitude during Ghorepani Poonhill Trek?

    There is a huge change of AMS problem i.e. Acute Mountain Sickness problem. It may cause some problems as you trek higher above 3500-meter altitude (11,482 ft.). But don’t worry about that. We have carefully designed our Ghorepani Poonhill Trek itinerary with sufficient time for acclimatization and less walking time each day. And our experienced trek guide will be helping you with it.

  • What is the best time of year for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek?

    Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is possible for the whole year, but the best time to doing this trek is spring season (March to May) and autumn season (September to November).

    However trekking in winter season to chance to see snowfall with magnificent views of mountain, and in monsoon time you will see waterfalls.
